How To Make An Exchange Blog

Making a blog is an awesome idea when going abroad for a long time. It will not only turn into a good memory but it also allows you to write about your experiences to everyone at once instead of using lots of time to write to everyone individually.

First of all, you have to find out what blog provider you want to use. Here is a list of the most popular ones:

I used Blogger to make my exchange blog and I loved it and found it very easy to use.

How often should I blog?

Be careful with being too ambitious with your blogging. Many exchange students often loose the motivation to blog during the year. I recommend blogging once a month and for special occasions (a trip or so), but if you are a disciplined person you can definitely do it more often than that.

How much should I write?

Do not write a 9-page long essay, but try to keep it just about 1000 words or so per post depending on how often you decide to blog.

In your blog post I recommend to include the following:

A title - give your post a fancy title
Pictures - this makes your post more interesting to look at
Sections - try to divide your writing into different sections and give them headlines to make it more manageable for the reader, for example:
Hiking
Sunday we drove up in the mountains were we hiked all day. It was such a beautiful area and the weather couldn't have been better...
Grand Canyon
Thursday the 22nd we drove down to Grand Canyon and spent the whole day in the beautiful national park just looking at the stunning view...
And remember - everyone can read your blog (if you do not edit the settings), so do not write bad things or complain about your host family, -country, friends or something like that.
